REFLECTED LIGHT

DARKFIELD REFLECTED LIGHT is a technique that is usually in addition to Brightfield Reflected Light which makes the specimen appear bright against a black background.  This is accomplished similarly to Darkfield Transmitted Light in that a darkfield stop is placed in the light path.  This darkfield stop can usually be inserted or removed as needed to easily switch between Brightfield and Darkfield.  The stop restricts the light from being reflected down through the magnifying lenses of the objective.  Instead, the light travels in a ring around the outside of a specially designed darkfield objective and is reflected toward the specimen at an oblique angle. The light scattered by the specimen travels up through the central magnifying lenses of the objective and eventually to the eye.  In reflected light, darkfield will show the true color of the specimen better than brightfield.  An alternate method of achieving a Reflected Light Darkfield effect is to affix a small fiberoptic ring light to an ordinary objective, provided the objective has a long enough working distance.  This is a relatively inexpensive way to add some reflected light capability to a transmitted light microscope.

The microscope(s) below have been selected from our extensive inventory as examples of the type of instruments we sell.   Martin Microscope is not necessarily an authorized dealer for all products shown.  Price is listed for reference only and is subject to change without notice - please contact us for complete specifications, current price and availability.  The images to the right were actually taken through the microscopes pictured using a consumer digital camera and MM Series Adapter.
